Confirmed for ‘Young Doctor’s Notebook’

LONDON Jon Hamm and Daniel Radcliffe have been confirmed as the stars of a new U.K. comedy drama miniseries based on a Russian novel in which they both play the same character.

The pair feature in “A Young Doctor’s Notebook,” a four-part skein inspired by a collection of short stories by Russian writer and playwright Mikhail Bulgakov set during the Russian Revolution.

Hamm takes the role of the older doctor, who has a series of bleakly comic exchanges with his younger self, portrayed by Radcliffe.

Show has been green lit by Sky Arts, owned by U.K. pay box BSkyB, and will be distributed internationally by BBC Worldwide.

The producer is Big Talk Productions in association with Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt’s Point West Pictures.

Hamm said: “Big Talk has been championing this project unabashedly and I share their great enthusiasm for bringing something original, dark, funny and moving to light.

“Also, I have been watching ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’ on infinite loop, and I think I’ve finally got this accent thing sorted…”

Radcliffe added: “I have been an obsessive Bulgakov reader for a couple of years now so when the opportunity to become involved in this project came up, I could barely contain my excitement.

“The book is funny, grotesque and heartfelt in equal measure and I look forward to working with a great group of people to help bring it to life.”

Radcliffe to star in TV drama with Jon Hamm

Daniel Radcliffe and Jon Hamm, who plays heartthrob Don Draper in Mad Men, have been signed up to appear together in a new TV medical drama.

The Sky Arts show, about Russian doctors after the First World War, will see the actors play the same character – with Daniel portraying a doctor in his younger years and Jon playing the medic in later life.

Hamm, who will narrate the tale, will also interact with his younger self – played by Daniel – during some of the scenes, reports The Sun.

A source told the paper: “This is a great role for Daniel and he’s pretty excited about the prospect of working with Jon.

“He’s a big Mad Men fan and feels he can learn a lot from Don. But Jon knows all about Daniel’s qualities, too, so he’ll also be doing some learning.”

Dan wants to write novels in the future

As J K Rowling puts the finishing touches to her debut book for adults,The Casual Vacancy, she could soon have a familiar rival. Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry Potter, in the film adaptations of Rowling’s books, is planning to write his own novels.

“I really want to write professionally in the future,” the 22-year-old actor tells Mandrake. “I try and write at the moment. I don’t know if I’m any good, as, normally, when I write I’m so self critical that it’s not long before I have to throw away what I write.”

The star of The Woman in Black has yet to inform Rowling. “Perhaps, I should get in touch with her for some help,” he says.
