10 June 2015   Comments Off on BBC stars among hundreds calling on broadcaster to save BBC3

Olivia Colman, Daniel Radcliffe, Maxine Peake and more than 750 stars and other broadcasting figures have signed an open letter urging the BBC Trust to reverse a management decision to close BBC3 as a terrestrial television channel.

Their letter argues that the proposals to make the channel’s programmes only available online would “remove at a stroke a vitally important outlet for new talent and innovative ideas”.

It will be delivered on Tuesday to the BBC director general, Tony Hall, and Rona Fairhead, the chair of the broadcaster’s governing body, the BBC Trust, and registers dismay at the cost-saving plan, days before the trust publishes its verdict on proposals made by management last year.

Other big-name signatories include Poldark’s Aidan Turner, Game of Thrones star Lena Headey, and James Nesbitt, as well as comedians including Russell Howard, Jack Whitehall, Steve Coogan, Rob Brydon, Andy Samberg and Greg Davies.

4 June 2015   Comments Off on Dan Supports Girlfriend Erin Darke on Opening Night of Her NY Play

Has Daniel Radcliffe found his real-life Ginny Weasley?

The Harry Potter star joined longtime girlfriend Erin Darke at the premiere party of her new play, The Spoils, on Tuesday night at Qi Bangkok Eatery in New York City.

Radcliffe and Darke, who have been dating since 2012, met on the set of the drama Kill Your Darlings, about Beat poets Allen Ginsburg, William Burroughs and Jack Kerouac.

After initially skirting relationship rumors, Radcliffe confirmed the couple’s relationship in 2014.

“I’m going out with my best friend at the moment. And that’s, I think, the way it should be,” Radcliffe told PEOPLE in August, later adding, “If you can get to a point where you’re dating or married to somebody you consider your best friend, that’s what will make it work.”

Darke, who’s appeared in Girls, and had parts in Still Alice and The Longest Week, plays Sarah in The Spoils, which was penned by Oscar nominee Jesse Eisenberg.

Eisenberg plays the lead in the off-Broadway show, which follows a disliked grad school flunkee’s plan to ruin the relationship of his childhood crush (Darke) and her fiancé.

21 May 2015   Comments Off on Grand Theft Auto firm sues BBC over Daniel Radcliffe film

Rockstar Games – maker of Grand Theft Auto – is suing the BBC over a drama called Game Changer.

The film stars Daniel Radcliffe as Sam Houser, the Briton behind the hit computer game series.

It’s about the clash between the firm and a US lawyer, Jack Thompson, who wanted the violent games banned.

Edinburgh-based Rockstar Games wants to ensure its “trademarks are not misused in the BBC’s pursuit of an unofficial depiction of purported events”.

Mr Thompson believed he could prove a link between playing the games and violent crimes.

He attempted to sue Rockstar on several occasions but the judges ruled against him.

Game Changer is written by James Wood (who is also responsible for Rev), and directed by Owen Harris (who made Black Mirror and Misfits).

Hollywood star Bill Paxton plays Jack Thompson. Filming is already under way with its release scheduled for later this year.

In a statement to ign.com, Rockstar said: “Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar’s parent company) has filed [a] suit against the BBC for trademark infringement based on their movie currently titled Game Changer as it relates to Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto video game series.

“While holders of the trademarks referenced in the film title and its promotion, Rockstar Games has had no involvement with this project.

“Our goal is to ensure that our trademarks are not misused in the BBC’s pursuit of an unofficial depiction of purported events related to Rockstar Games.

“We have attempted multiple times to resolve this matter with the BBC without any meaningful resolution.

“It is our obligation to protect our intellectual property and unfortunately in this case litigation was necessary.”

The BBC says it won’t “comment on legal matters.”

Grand Theft Auto lets players to behave like criminals, hijacking cars and gunning down bystanders, including police officers.

GTA V earned $1bn in its first three days on sale, becoming the fastest selling entertainment product in history.
